Toronto moved Jaden Bradley off a two-way and onto a standard roster seat on Monday.
The Raptors converted the No. 50 pick to a four-year, $9.3 million deal with the first year guaranteed, then slid Malachi Smith into the two-way slot Bradley just vacated.
The conversion lands before training camp, with a Final Four point guard already on the standard sheet. Bradley was Big 12 Player of the Year last season at Arizona after 13.3 points, 4.4 assists, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.4 steals across 39 games. He made First Team and All-Defense, won Big 12 Tournament MVP in March, and helped the Wildcats reach the Final Four. Second-round math usually parks that résumé on a two-way until somebody gets hurt. Toronto did not wait for the injury. It paid the standard-sheet number before training camp tips.
Summer League did not dress the conversion up. In five games with the Raptors he averaged 6.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.2 assists on 32.4 percent shooting in 20.5 minutes. Those nights were messy. They also were not the tape Toronto drafted. The tape is a 6-foot-3, 205-pound senior who already ran a Final Four offense, pressed full court, and lived in the help. When Immanuel Quickley needs a night and Jamal Shead needs a breather, the third ballhandler has to know how to keep a halfcourt set on schedule. The standard deal is buying that third gear.
Smith's flip matters for the same roster geometry. The 26-year-old signed with Toronto as a free agent in mid-August after 8.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in 15 games with Brooklyn last season, plus 14.4 points and 5.7 assists across 39 G League appearances with Long Island. Converting him to the open two-way keeps a veteran creator in the Raptors' development lane while Bradley's cap hit moves onto the main 15. Team policy left the exact year-by-year numbers off the release. The reported $9.3 million over four years, with year one guaranteed, is the figure the market is reading.
Campus-to-pro stories get thin when the only sentence is "he signed." This one has a watched path. Alabama freshman. Three years in Tucson. Big 12 Player of the Year. Final Four. Draft night at 50. Two-way in July. Standard sheet in September with camp a week out. The $9.3 million is the price of taking a proven college organizer off the G League shuttle before the first practice whistle, then filling the shuttle with Smith so the seat does not go empty.
