Brooklyn Meyer Rejoins South Dakota State 258 Points From the Jackrabbits' Career Scoring Record
The reigning Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year went back on the South Dakota State roster Wednesday, hours before an exhibition and five days before the opener against Creighton. Same day, NCAA president Charlie Baker said again that the class of 2022 already got its five years.

Brooklyn Meyer's name went back on the South Dakota State women's basketball roster on Wednesday, after a fall spent on the Jackrabbits' volleyball team. She returns with 2,097 career points, 258 short of Macy Miller's program record, after averaging 22.6 points and 8.0 rebounds on .646 shooting last season.
The roster add comes from the SDSU roster page, which lists her at No. 31 again, and was reported by Sioux Falls Live. The school had not put out a release as of Wednesday afternoon. The Jackrabbits play an exhibition against St. Cloud State tonight and open at home against Creighton on Monday.
What 22.6 on .646 looked like last season
Start with the efficiency. A post who scores 22.6 a night on 64.6 percent from the field is turning most of her touches into two points. Those were all career highs, in the season she won the Hammon award as the top mid-major player in the country. Her career mark of 60.9 percent is first in program history.
The Summit League preseason poll picked North Dakota State first and South Dakota State second. That poll came out before Meyer rejoined the roster. Her résumé includes Summit player of the year and defensive player of the year in 2023-24 and last season's Summit tournament MVP.
Her volume backs up the efficiency. Meyer has 823 career field goals, second in program history, and South Dakota State made the NCAA Tournament in all four of her seasons.
The record chase, by the numbers
Meyer sits third in program scoring, 70 points behind Myah Selland for second. Miller's record is 2,355, which leaves her 258 points short. By our count, if she matches last season's 22.6 points per game, passing Selland takes about 3 games and passing Miller takes about 12.
The other columns are close too. Her 174 blocks rank second in program history, her 450 made free throws rank third, and her 850 rebounds rank fifth.
What SDSU hasn't said about her eligibility
Meyer is from the high school class of 2022, the class the NCAA left out when it moved to the age-based five-in-five model this summer. South Dakota State has not said what her fifth basketball year rests on.
Three facts sit around that question, and none of them is about Meyer by name.
On Wednesday, Baker told the Hoops HQ Show that the 2022 class "got exactly what they were expecting to get and what they were promised when they enrolled."
In August, the Tenth Circuit stayed a national class injunction covering 2022 athletes, according to Bloomberg Law and On3. The NCAA's chief legal officer then told schools that players cleared under it were no longer eligible.
North Carolina's Cameron Fens won a ruling and remains ineligible after a stay, the News & Observer reported.
What to watch
- Her minutes against St. Cloud State tonight and Creighton on Monday, the first game that counts.
- The 70 points to pass Selland and the 258 to pass Miller.
- Any school statement or court filing that names the basis for her fifth year.
