The Oklahoma City Thunder will retire Russell Westbrook's No. 0 on Feb. 7, 2027, when the New York Knicks visit Paycom Center, the team announced Monday on X, and Shams Charania reported the date. Westbrook scored 18,859 points with 138 triple-doubles in 821 regular-season games over 11 seasons in Oklahoma City, per Basketball-Reference, and his number becomes the second the franchise has retired, after Nick Collison's No. 4 in 2019.
Westbrook announced his retirement in August after 18 seasons. Three months later, the date is set.
What the number covers
The Oklahoma City totals, per Basketball-Reference, cover 11 seasons from 2008-09 through 2018-19.
| Category | Thunder regular season | | --- | --- | | Games | 821 (804 starts) | | Points | 18,859 (23.0 per game) | | Assists | 6,897 (8.4) | | Rebounds | 5,760 (7.0) | | Steals | 1,442 (1.8) | | Triple-doubles | 138 | | Playoff games | 98 (25.4 points per game) |
Westbrook still leads the franchise in points, assists and steals, per The Oklahoman.
Nobody has worn No. 0 in Oklahoma City since the 2019 trade that sent Westbrook to Houston, per The Oklahoman. The team kept it off the roster for seven seasons. Feb. 7 makes that official.
The season that carried the ceremony
2016-17, the first year after Kevin Durant left for Golden State. Westbrook averaged 31.6 points, 10.7 rebounds and 10.4 assists, recorded 42 triple-doubles and won MVP, per Basketball-Reference. His player efficiency rating that season was 30.6.
He then averaged a triple-double the next two seasons as well, 25.4-10.1-10.3 and 22.9-11.1-10.7. A fourth came in Washington in 2020-21.
His 209 career triple-doubles are the NBA record, per Basketball-Reference, and 138 of them came for the Thunder.
Drafted by Seattle in 2008
Seattle took Westbrook fourth overall out of UCLA in June 2008, weeks before the franchise moved, per Basketball-Reference. He played all 11 of the Thunder's seasons before the trade and started 804 of his 821 games.
"Russell Westbrook is the ultimate competitor," Sam Presti, the Thunder's general manager, said in the team's statement on Westbrook's retirement in August, per The Oklahoman.
Collison's ceremony came on March 20, 2019, per The Oklahoman.
Playoffs in Oklahoma City
Those Westbrook teams made the playoffs in nine of his 11 seasons and reached the 2012 Finals, and he averaged 25.4 points across 98 playoff games in Oklahoma City, per Basketball-Reference.
Before Feb. 7
The date sits about 14 weeks away, by our count. Separately, Presti said at his season-opening press conference that Westbrook would be honored on Nov. 2 at the Oklahoma City National Memorial's Day One Luncheon, per SI on Sept. 30.
The open questions are about the night itself. The team has not said. No. 0 joins No. 4, and it took 821 games to get there.
