The Clippers waived Cam Christie on Wednesday, one day before his $2,296,271 salary for 2026-27 would have become fully guaranteed on Thursday, Oct. 15. Shams Charania of ESPN reported the cut, and the team confirmed it.
Two delays, then the cut
Christie's guarantee date was supposed to be June 30. Law Murray of The Athletic reported the Clippers and Christie pushed it to July 20, then pushed it again to Oct. 15. On the third deadline, the team waived him.
Hoops Rumors reported in July that Christie's deal still carried a Clippers option for 2027-28, listed near $2.5 million, with a June 30, 2027 guarantee date. Waiving him now clears the 2026-27 line and ends that option path with Los Angeles unless he returns on a different deal.
Fifteen guaranteed seats
Hoops Rumors noted the Clippers already have 15 other players on guaranteed contracts. The standard roster caps at 15. Keeping Christie through Thursday would have locked $2.3 million into a spot that could not expand.
The Clippers also waived forward DeAndre Williams, per the AP transactions list.
The shooting numbers
Christie was the 46th pick in the 2024 draft out of Minnesota, where he hit 39.1% of his threes in one college season.
Last season he played 55 games and averaged 2.8 points and 1.4 rebounds in 8.7 minutes. Across 68 career NBA appearances he has shot 36.8% from the field and 22.6% from three, per Hoops Rumors.
The two-way door
If Christie clears waivers he becomes an unrestricted free agent. He is 21. His brother, Max Christie, plays for the Mavericks, per Hoops Rumors.
Oct. 15 was the line. Keeping him through that date would have made $2,296,271 real money against the cap. Cutting him on Oct. 14 means the Clippers owe nothing on that season.
Hoops Rumors and Hoops Wire both reported that the Clippers have an open two-way spot, so a return to Los Angeles under a different contract remains possible.
