What came before Tuesday
Tennessee arrived with questions on the glass. The Vols struggled on the boards in two public exhibitions against Xavier and Duke, per the student paper, and lost both by double digits, per the AP.
Rick Barnes added eight transfers after three straight Elite Eight trips, per the AP. Brown, a 6-foot-8, 248-pound sophomore, is one of only two players back from last season's Elite Eight team, per the student paper.
"DeWayne Brown's a really good basketball player," Barnes said, per the student paper. "I've said before, when we bring recruits in and show them highlights of what we're trying to get done is amazing. DeWayne's in almost all those highlights."
Wofford coach Kevin Giltner saw it from the other bench. "It's like running into a brick wall when he ducks in," he said, per the student paper.
The two programs last met in the first round of the 2025 NCAA Tournament in Lexington, Kentucky, a 77-62 win for the second-seeded Vols, per the AP. Wofford went 19-13 last season.
Tennessee entered the season No. 8 in the AP Top 25. It hosts Radford on Monday. Wofford plays at North Carolina on Friday.
