The TakeAug 26, 2026·By The Dyme

Is Six Months the Real Clock on Jordan Miller's Shoulder?

Shams said torn left rotator cuff. Six months. They just paid him $15.3 million to be a rotation wing.

Watch the wing who just got paid. Not the presser. Not the qualifying-offer tweet from June. The one who turned a two-way into a real rotation job last year, then signed the check in July, then went to work in August. That is the tape you already have if you watched the Clippers last season. Wednesday the shoulder left the building.

Shams Charania put the clock on the table. Surgery Wednesday to repair a torn rotator cuff in his left shoulder. Injury happened in an offseason workout. Reevaluated in about six months. The Clippers confirmed the report. Hoops Rumors carried the same length. No extra poetry. Six months. After the All-Star break at the earliest. The whole 2026/27 season may be in jeopardy.

That is not a rest week. That is a rotator cuff.

If you hoop, you already know what that tendon does. It is the raise. The finish at the rim. The wing who can go get a rebound and still have a shoulder to throw the next pass. Take the left one off a 6-foot-5 rotation wing and you do not have a minutes debate. You have a hole.

They just paid him to be that wing. Three years. $15.3 million. Restricted free agency in July. Year one is $5.3 million and it is the only year that is fully guaranteed. 2027/28 is a non-guaranteed $5 million. 2028/29 is a $5 million team option. The Clippers declined a roughly $2.5 million option so they could redo the deal and keep him. That is the sentence the injury is sitting on.

Forty-eighth pick in 2023. First two years were spare. Then 2025/26: 10.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists in 22.1 minutes. Sixty games. .531 / .345 / .777. Promoted from a two-way to a standard deal in February. That is the player they paid. Not a prospect poster. A rotation wing who had already earned the minutes.

Six months from late August is not a holiday pause. Six months from late August is the meat of the season. After All-Star is the earliest door Hoops Rumors already named. The season-in-jeopardy line is sitting right next to it. Those are not the same sentence. Hold them in the same hand.

The first year of a $15.3 million deal is supposed to be the year he proves the raise. Instead it is a rehab year. The money is still $5.3 million guaranteed. The minutes are not. A non-guaranteed second year and a team option in year three were already how Los Angeles kept the flexibility. A torn rotator cuff in a workout is how that flexibility starts talking back.

Do not turn this into a depth-chart fight. Max Strus can still be in the room. Other wings can still take the night. That is not the take. The take is that they paid a rotation wing $15.3 million and the first year of that contract is now the year he has to get the left shoulder to believe him again.

You can stand in a corner. You can shoot when the arm lets you. You cannot be the same downhill problem until the joint trusts the raise. Miller's game last year was the finish after the set died. That is the action the official photo is holding. That is why six months is the real number and "he can play when he is back" is not an answer.

The Clippers will still have a wing rotation. The Clippers will not have the 10-point, 22-minute version of Miller for the first half of the year, and maybe not for the year. Training camp can still look loud. Opening night can still have names. None of that puts the left shoulder back on the floor.

They paid him $15.3 million to be a rotation wing. Six months means the first year of that deal is a rehab year. The official clock is six months. After All-Star is the earliest door. The season is the one the wire already said may be in jeopardy. That is the worry.
