Toronto ruled Marina Mabrey out for the rest of the season with a right adductor injury. No surgery.

She last suited Aug 18 with twenty-two points in a 101-95 loss to Indiana, then nearly a month of silence before Wednesday's shut-down. Full recovery expected. The home slate still had Brittney Sykes and Aneesah Morrow already gone the same way.
Count what the Tempo paid for and what they got before the adductor won. Sixth overall in the expansion draft out of Connecticut. Protected money at $1.2 million this year and $1.2 million next, $2.4 million guaranteed through 2027.

Mabrey opened with a midrange fadeaway in the first twenty seconds against Los Angeles, hit 19 in the first quarter, sat at 27 by half, 39 after three, and took the pass from Julie Allemand with under three minutes left for the three that locked 53. Seventeen of twenty-eight from the field. Nine of eighteen from deep, tying the single-game three record on the same night she tied A'ja Wilson (2023) and Liz Cambage (2018) for the WNBA scoring record. Tempo 125-97. The money still talks into next year. Protected $1.2 million in 2027 means Mabrey is on the books as a Tempo piece when the adductor is cleared, not a rental who vanished with the expansion scrapbook. Expansion years eat minutes and bodies. This one ate the leading scorer after she already wrote the franchise's first record night. The 53 and the 20.8 stay on the sheet. The shut-down is what ends the 2026 chapter before the Fever tip Friday.
