Saddiq Bey's $55.5M Locks Through 2029-30
New Orleans locked Saddiq Bey on a fully guaranteed three-year $55.5M extension starting 2027-28 through 2029-30, with a 15% trade kicker, after his 17.7 PPG bounce-back on $6.44M this year.

New Orleans locked Saddiq Bey on a fully guaranteed three-year, $55.5 million extension.
The money starts in 2027-28 and runs through 2029-30, after one more season at $6.44 million, with a trade kicker of up to 15 percent of remaining salary paid by the Pelicans if he is moved.
The volume came back after a blank year. Bey missed all of 2024-25 rehabbing the left ACL he tore with Atlanta in March 2024. In 2025-26 he played 72 games, started 64, and put up 17.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 0.9 steals in 31.2 minutes on .451/.367/.841. After the All-Star break the line jumped to 20 points a night and 40 percent from three. The nights that sold the raise were concrete: 42 against Utah on Feb 26, 36 against Memphis on Jan 23, 34 against Philadelphia on Jan 31. That is a 27-year-old wing who stretches the floor and finishes at the rim again, not a hope clip from rehab.
Count what $18.5 million a year buys on that profile. Bey is a 6'8 forward who can space, cut, and punish closeouts without needing the ball as a primary creator. Career marks sit at 14.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists across 364 games with Detroit, Atlanta, and New Orleans. The Pelicans are paying the season that erased the ACL question, not the average of the years before it. Under a rising cap, an $18.5 million wing slot ages softer than a max wing who still has to prove health. Next to Zion Williamson usage and the rest of the New Orleans forward stack, that number is a starter-level wing rate without swallowing the sheet.
Locking him through 2029-30 before free agency is the board move. Leave him to walk after 2026-27 and you risk bidding against the market for a 28-year-old coming off a career-high scoring year. Buy the three years now and you keep the $6.44 million 2026-27 hit while the extension waits. New Orleans still controls the timeline. Bey still gets paid for the bounce-back before another team can. The draft path that put him 19th overall in 2020 (Nets to Pistons), the Wizards three-year $20 million paper in July 2024 that he never played, and the July 2025 trade into New Orleans all land here: a wing who finally got a clean year and a front office that wrote the years before the next open market could.
The trade kicker is Bey's insurance if the window stalls. Up to 15 percent of remaining salary, paid by New Orleans, means a move does not leave him holding the same check while the roster resets around him. For the club it is a cost of doing business if they ever package him. For the player it is protection on a fully guaranteed deal that already runs deep into the decade. Argue about whether New Orleans should lean into the current group or reshuffle. The paper already answers what Bey gets either way.
Camp opens with Bey still cheap for one more year, then the $55.5 million block starts. On nights when Zion draws the help, Mosley still needs the stretch and the drive from that $55.5 million wing slot. The extension paid the 17.7 and the 64 starts. The next tape has to keep matching that bill.
