29 Double-Doubles: Angel Reese Breaks the WNBA Record

Angel Reese's 15 points and 11 rebounds Sunday were her 29th double-double of the season, the WNBA record, and Atlanta beat the league-leading Lynx 89-81.

She came into the fourth at 13 and 7. The tenth board passed Alyssa Thomas's 28 from 2023. Friday vs Portland she had tied it at 28, 16 and 16. Sunday she stands alone. You do not skip 15 and 11. That is the 29th time this year.

Minnesota used a 13-2 run to cut the lead to seven. Howard, who had missed her first five 3s, hit back-to-back from the left wing and Atlanta led 79-66 with 5:55 left. Gray went 23 and 11, first double-double of her season, 8-of-16, 6-of-11 from three. Her fifth three with 8:52 left in the second was the 500th of her career, 23rd player in WNBA history to 500. Canada 16 and 10. Howard 16, 12 of them in the fourth. Bonner's Atlanta debut: 7 points, 4 rebounds in 17 minutes. Miles 21 (7-of-14) in 30 minutes, hard fall on a driving layup in the last minute. McBride 17, Collier 17, Williams 11 after a one-game sprained right foot. Dream 33-of-71 (46%), 13-of-36 from three. Lynx 30-of-70 (43%), 6-of-19 from three. Atlanta outrebounded Minnesota 37-32.

The eighth tech came off Saturday so she was even on the floor. She played. She already holds the single-game rebound record (26, Aug. 24) and the single-season rebound record. Minnesota's eight-game road win streak is gone. After all of Sunday, Golden State is 29-11, two games back. Atlanta is 26-14, tied with Indiana for fourth, five games back. Season series Dream 2-1. Next: Dream host Connecticut Sept. 17. Lynx host New York Sept. 18. Reese and Howard go to Berlin for the World Cup, Sept. 4-13.

Do not treat 15 and 11 like a night you skip. The extra jump was the record. The 1-seed left College Park down 89-81.
